SECOND READING RENTERS REFORM BILL

On 1 May 2024, the Bill was introduced in the House of Lords and Second Reading in the Lords on 15th May 2024.

Whilst amendments have been made we still believe there is further changes that need to be made to protect landlords and tenants moving forward.

As part of being a regulated letting and managing agent we fall under ARLA regulation.

PROPERTYMARK / ALRA CAMPAIGNING

They continue working to ensure the UK Government’s plans to reform the private rented sector are fit for purpose and will work in practice. So far, PropertyMark has engaged with senior officials at DLUHC, lobbied MPs, provided evidence at Minister-led roundtables and the Public Bill Committee in the House of Commons and made members views clear at select committee sessions in Parliament.

The campaign focusses on four key areas:

  • Retaining fixed term tenancies as an option where it is mutually beneficial for both parties.

  • Ensuring agents and landlords have the protections they need through robust grounds for possession.

  • Court reform and improving access to justice.

  • Regulation of property agents to ensure parity with the social rented sector, drive up standards and help deliver a fairer private rented sector for tenants and landlords.
